By far one of the biggest stresses would be packing for a Holiday. Packing for the unknown. Well, we have broken it down for you to assist in making sure you have all you need, without the heavy suit cases. No matter what type of vacation you’re taking it is important to make sure that you pack the Essentials. Items like this include valid passport, Driver’s License and of course… Cell phone. Also make sure that you have some Cash in hand for when you arrive. Most of the Caribbean countries accept US dollars alongside their own currency.
When it comes to clothing remember, the Caribbean is Hot. The ideal is lots of light, airy and light colored items. (Stay away from grey) Remember, you will sweat. Not fun to talk about but it happens. Cotton will be your friend in the Caribbean. We are sure most of the time you will be in bathing suits and sandals but be sure to pack some comfy tops, shorts and sneakers, as well as one or two nice things to wear to a dinner or event (you never know what can happen).
Ladies, leave the heels at home. We suggest nice pair of flats or two. You may find it difficult to walk around in the Caribbean in heels. Also remember, It’s the Caribbean, Lots of colour! Have fun with it. Some Caribbean nations like the Dominican Republic and Jamaica have vibrant club scenes, so if you plan to hit the town after dark, a sexy sundress would work. In Caribbean nations that still have some British theme to them like Bermuda and Barbados, dressier evening clothes are appropriate; for a woman, a cocktail dress is fitting for restaurants.
When it comes to the Toiletries, this will be the heaviest part of your packing. Bug spray and cream. We do suggest packing your own to take as it is usually cheaper than in the Caribbean as well as there are more options in larger countries. Mozzies tend to bite at sunrise and sunset, so make sure you are sprayed before hitting the sundowners at the bar.
Second to this is Sunscreen- Nothing under 50 spf! And re-apply every few hours.
Another fun tip- Baby powder, it helps with getting sand to just fall right off as well as helps with sweating on a day. Do not be afarid to use.
Check that you have the correct adaptor for your phone and blow dryer. Most hotels and villas come with a blow-dryer but I know this is a must for most. We do suggest to bring your own shampoo, conditioner etc as these simple items are actually quite expensive in the Caribbean as they have to be imported. Way cheaper to bring from home.
And last but not least! Make sure you have a good pair of Sunglasses.
Make sure you leave some room in your suitcases for the way home for that bottle of rum and gifts for mom and the office!
