Things to know when traveling to Anguilla

Posted On Tuesday, September 27, 2022

1. STAY IN ONE OF OUR VILLAS

Why stay in a hotel when you can stay in a gorgeous luxury villa? When in Anguilla stay in a villa, we have some of the most luxurious villas. Many with a private pool complete with ridiculous views. There are a ton of villas listed on our site that you can choose from, go check them out right now!

2. ALL BEACHES ARE PUBLIC

All the beaches in Anguilla are public. Even if there is a hotel right on the beach there will be a public access path to the beach. The best recommended beach is Shoal Bay.

Consistently it ranks as one of the top beaches in not only the Caribbean, but the entire world. It's easy to see why! There is no other way to say it... Shoal Bay Anguilla beach is beautiful, with its pinkish-hued white sand and intense turquoise water.

They have the most incedible sunsets you can see here! Granted there are many, many ideal spots for sunset on the special island of Anguilla, Shoal Bay is no exception. If you are on Lower Shoal Bay, the sunset will set to your left and over the sea. If you visit on Anguilla and aren't staying on Shoal Bay, you should make sure to plan an evening to catch a sunset there.

3. USE USD INSTEAD OF EASTERN CARIBBEAN DOLLARS (EC)

We thought using the local currency, Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollars would be a better deal but it actually was a bigger headache. All the restaurants in Anguilla were listed in USD and would have to convert the prices in EC for us. Some of the beach bars ended up costing more in EC than if we just paid in USD.

4. BRING ENOUGH SUNSCREEN

Make sure to bring enough sunscreen because if you forget it you’ll be paying a premium. We have learned on our travels the more you need sunscreen the higher the price.

If you do run out of sunscreen in Anguilla the best place to buy some is at Best Buy, there are two locations on the island.

5. SPEND A DAY ON SANDY ISLAND

Dedicate one day to doing nothing but enjoying island life on Sandy Island. Sandy Island is a quick 10-minute boat ride from Sandy Ground. A Sandy Island excursion includes a boat ride, exploring/lazing on a spit of sand in the middle of clear turquoise blue water, well-made rum punches, and fresh-from-the-grill food.

At the bar, they make these cocktails that are absolutely spectacular! The classic rum punch is a must. If you have heard about Sandy Island, you have likely heard about the rum punches and they are not overrated.
